Destin Florida
After residing in Destin Florida for many years, I found many interesting things about this quiet little fishing village. Destin is a small town in the panhandle of Florida along the Emerald coast whose residents hold strong to faith and fishing. It is called the Emerald Coast because the coastal waters are the most beautiful crystal clear emerald colors you have ever seen. If boating out off shore, it is not uncommon to see the bottom in water depths of 80 plus feet. This is why Destin is a land mark location and home of many world class anglers. The ever famous Emerald Coast Marlin Tournament, one of the largest purses in the United States, is hosted every year in the Villages of Bay Town Marina in Sandestin. Keep your eyes peeled during this event as you may see some of Hollywood’s most famous who maintain homes here.
Destin makes for a great tourist location as it caters to families that like the small town feel with the larger city amenities such as five star dining, shopping and festive seasonal events. Destin is home to the Silver Sands outlet mall the nation’s largest designer center with over 100 name brand stores. The Destin commons is also a shopping destination of visitors
as it is home to many shops and the Rave Theater with over 14 screens which are brand new with state of the art high definition pictures and sound quality as well as stadium seating. There are very nice restaurants in the Destin commons as well such as Sushi Siam, The Hard Rock Café, Red Brick Pizza and Johnny Rockets. The Destin commons is also home of the world famous Bass Pro Shops with everything from hunting and fishing gear to boats and ATV’s.
Destin has many very nice accommodations for every budget. Visitors can also rent homes that are beach front with spectacular sunset views or for those who need more discreet accommodations a home in a private community would be available.
There are many activities to choose from for young and not so young a like along the beach front such as parasailing, ocean kayaking, surfing, boating, diving and fishing.
Destin also has a wide variety of nature trails and state parks which visitors may want to camp or rent a cabin on one of the rare and beautiful dune lakes. Destin has several dune lakes which are only found in a few parts of the world. Our dune lakes naturally open up to the ocean to allow water in to balance the salinity to maintain a delicate ecosystem. This phenomenon can be witnessed several times a year.
